Gold Coins Detected and Unearthed in Syria
A large amount of more than 800 pieces of various ancient coins has been detected in Syria, a middle east country which covers an area that has seen invasions and occupations over the ages, from Romans and Mongols to Crusaders and Turks. That is why Syria has many hidden historic treasures that are researched by archaeologists, metal detectorists and treasure hunters. The coin find has been made with the eXp 4000 metal detector and 3D ground scanner. The values of the coins are estimated from 150 to 8000 € per piece.
The coins are mostly dating from 280 BC to 320 AD. The huge amount of ancient coins including Greek coins, Byzantine coins and Roman coins are representing the various cultures and people of that times. The coins are made of bronze, silver and gold. It is the dream of every treasure hunter to once find a hoard or collection of valuable objects or artifacts like that.
Many of the detected coins are showing famous persons like emperors or kings of the corresponding epoch. So the Roman coins are showing Gaius Julius Caesar the imperator of the Roman Empire and the Greek coins are showing Apollo, one of the most important and diverse of the Olympian deities in Greek and Roman mythology. On the Byzantine coins the contour of the ancient king of Syria is visible.
