Uncovering History: Hobby Historians on the Hunt for World War II Bunkers

OKM Experts and Historians Team Up for a WWII Expedition

A passionate group of hobby historians from Germany have set out on an extraordinary mission: to uncover hidden remnants of World War II. After months of archival research, comparing old occupation maps and analyzing historical photographs, they've identified potential sites for underground structures. They believe that deep below the surface, at depths of 20 to 40 meters, there may be nuclear labs, garages, warehouses, car manufacturing facilities, or even torpedo launching sites waiting to be discovered.

To support this ambitious project, a team of experts from OKM joined the historians on their journey into the heart of Germany. Armed with specialized detectors such as the OKM Rover UC and OKM Gepard GPR 3D, and with decades of experience in underground detection, OKM specialists worked with the historians to bring these hidden stories to light. The first search expedition focused on verifying the most promising sites.

Starting the Search: Early Results from Meadows and Fields

The first two locations took the team through a variety of terrain, starting with a picturesque riverbank meadow. Here they suspected a canal connecting a concrete shaft access to the water. Using the OKM Rover C4, OKM Rover UC and OKM Gepard GPR 3D, the OKM experts conducted precise scans, revealing structures that seemed to match the historical maps.

The second site was a long field path where a torpedo launch site was believed to be buried. Despite challenging conditions such as rain and the resulting limited scan depth, initial results showed no anomalies. However, subsequent analysis and expert feedback suggested that the underground facility might be only a few meters away, leading to plans for further scans. The team will return soon to continue the search and uncover the hidden site.

Bunker Revealed: A Thrilling Discovery Beneath Forest Trails

A rough ride through forest and field trails led the team to their third location. Upon arrival, they spotted rusted metal casings embedded in the ground, suggesting possible mounts for mobile equipment. Scans of the targeted areas revealed impressive results, and several shafts at the edge of the field confirmed the findings. One shaft provided direct access to an underground structure. Equipped with an action camera, one team member ventured into the bunker and captured fascinating footage of interconnected rooms, some of which were partially buried. The day ended with plans for additional scans to fully map the bunker.

A History Buried in Debris: The Next Step in the Search

The fourth spot presented the team with a unique challenge. Located near the remains of ancient buildings, the area was littered with debris that made scanning difficult. Despite these obstacles, remnants of ancient walls indicated the possibility of an underground structure. Before further exploration can proceed, the area must be cleared, and future scans will confirm whether the suspicions are correct.

The search for WWII bunkers remains an exciting adventure, offering insights into hidden history while preserving stories that might otherwise be lost. With new expeditions on the horizon, the anticipation is building - who knows what secrets await discovery?
